The Chiggy Ultra 2024 Information

The Chiggy Ultra 2024 Frequently Asked Questions

Q - What if I can no longer make the race?

A - You are able to Transfer your Bib to someone you can sell it to. On the Race Roster
page, there is a Transfer button. It’ll work until September 28th 2024 (1 Week before the Race). If you have any issues with the button, please let me know!
We DO NOT allow Refunds or Deferrals, we are FIRM on this.

Q - Where can I stay?

A - There are different options for places to stay in Advocate Area, here are just a few

Laurie Currie has different options from Hard Tents to sites to park a trailer or tent.  These are not serviced, but have an outhouse.  He also has a cottage.  For inquires, you can book with him by emailing: localguyadventures@gmail.com.

Click on Cape Chignecto Back Country. There are a lot of sites in the New Yarmouth, Christie Field and Elliott Field (Eatonville) which are fairly easy to get to.

Q - Where can I eat?

Advocate Country Store Rite Stop. This is a Full Service Gas Station which serves
Food and drinks. They make take out food as well, open 7 am to 7pm normally 7 days
a week. (On Facebook)

Hanham’s Home Slice Pizza - (902) 216-1051 (also on Facebook)

Wild Caraway Restaurant - https://wildcaraway.com/

The ADDA Campground has their OWN restaurant, and it’s good too!
Hook and Anchor Restaurant - (902) 392-2517 (On Facebook)

Q - Are there Recommended Items?

A - While we don’t have an absolute items list required for the race, here are items we suggest you bring:

Hydration vest or something to carry liquid … preferably 1 Litre minimum

Water Filter - There are 3 Aid Stations, but there are several rivers you could refill water if you tend to go through a lot.

Headlamp / light - You don’t want to get caught in the dark.

Small First Aid Kit - never a bad idea to have some bandages, duct tape and a thermal
blanket.

Charged Cell phone with John’s # in it (902) 664 1069

Snacks

Some other things to Note:

Keep an eye on the projected weather to dress appropriately. If you are doing more than 1
loop, consider extra clothing in your vehicle.  It can get cool overnight.

What about the Aid Stations?

A - There will be 3 aid stations out on the course. They are ( in order) Bunkhouse,
Big Bald and Arch Gulch. If you are doing 2 or 3 loops, Big Bald and Arch Gulch will have
Grilled Cheese and Soup later into the evening. You can also use your vehicle as an Aid
Station to grab extra food etc.

Please NOTE - This is a cupless race! We are making efforts to provide each runner who is participating a soft collapsible cup with their Bib to use during the race.  We encourage you to use this or your own at Aid Stations.  The ONLY exception to this, is we will have insulated cups for Soup or Coffee, these will not be provided for cold drinks (Coke, Water, Tailwind etc).

Note about the Bunkhouse Aid Station - This is the ONLY Aid Station which is accessible by vehicle off the Eatonville Road. It’s a dirt road, which can be affected by heavy rains, so an SUV or larger is recommended, i’ll leave that up to you.

If you have a support person who wants to meet you there to cheer you on, they can. This can also be used as a spot to pick something up or drop something off if you need (IE Man I forgot my poles! OR Man I HATE these Poles!). Any items exchanged here would be by your support person, we won’t be delivering items back to the start.
It’s approx 16.5k in. It is a narrow road, and also used by locals, so try to be considerate when parking / driving on it. It has sketchy cell service. But driving a short distance away you will get a few bars.

Park Map

Arch and Back Event (New for 2024) - This will follow the initial same route as all other events UNTIL you reach the 'Cape Chignecto - Eatonville Junction' *Picture Below*

In this case you will head LEFT towards Arch Gulch.  Once you check into the Aid Station, you will head back, and follow all the remaining signs for runners to exit the park.
On race day, there WILL be signs posted with your event on it, this is just to give you an idea ahead of time.

To the Bunk and Back (New for 2024) - This will follow all runners taking part in 1, 2 or 3 loops, except after you finish checking in with the Aid Station, you will turn back and follow the route out you came in.  When you get to the junction as indicated in the picture above (you would be coming from the right on your return journey), you'll then follow the signs to exit the park as per all runners.

Race Start Times **** New for 2024 **** - Please note, this is a change from previous years.  1 Loop, Arch and Back & Bunk and Back all start at 0700 on Saturday Morning (October 5th).

2 and 3 Loopers will start at Midnight, that is 12 AM on Saturday October 5th.

If you signed up for 2 or 3 loops, and as race day approaches you decide to drop to 1 loop, you will start at 0700 on Saturday.  If you do this, you CANNOT decide to go back out for a 2nd loop.

Signs and Flagging - We will be improving our signage and flagging for 2024.  We will adopt an Inbound Flag color and an Outbound Flag Color (This seemed to work for A Day in Wentworth 2023).  We will also be improving our signs.

Drop Bags - These are ONLY for Loop runners.  You will be handed a large ziplock bag when you are handed your bib. Please place anything you think you will need at Big Bald Cabin (approx 30k in). This ziplock bag will be disposed of after the race. You will not get the contents in the ziplock bag back.
Please don’t stick a Patagonia jacket in this drop bag, unless it’s size XL and forest green. I
could use one of those.

Pacer - 2 and 3 Loopers can have a pacer!  3 Loopers can have a pacer for loops 2 and 3, and they can have two different Pacers.

Dropping from the Race - If you want to drop from the race (not including a life threatening injury), stop at one of the Aid Stations. There will be volunteers at these who can sit with you and keep you company.  There is a very high chance you will have to wait several hours to be picked up, as these Aid Stations take awhile to get to (in some cases 90 to 120 minutes return trip from the Start / Finish).

Parking for the Race - We will be able to use the Main Parking lot for the Park, however
regular park users will also be using it. If the parking lot is close to being full, we encourage you to park on Eatonville Road. From the end of the road to the Start / Finish is approx 0.6
kilometers. Eatonville Road is a public road, but it’s narrow, so please park on One Side and
leave room so vehicles can pass.

Kit Pickup - We will be posting times etc for Race Registration and Kit Pickup.  If you want your kit, YOU must show up, you can’t get someone else to pick it up for you.
